When the business idea feels heavier than expected
Let's talk about clarity. Sometimes the business idea is there — something God has been placing on your heart. But when you try to explain it, build it, or take the next step, it starts feeling heavier than you expected. Not because the idea is wrong, but because you need to understand what you're actually building with God before you keep adding more to it.
Welcome to Set Apart Startup — the show for Christian women solopreneurs starting, rebuilding, or simplifying a small business with God.
Too many thoughts moving at once
You're not sitting there with no desire — that's not the issue. The issue is too many thoughts moving at once. One minute you feel excited, the next you're questioning the offer, then wondering who you're even talking to, then thinking, "how do I make this make sense?" That's where business starts feeling heavier than it needs to. I know that place. When I first started, I was listening to a lot of people online talk about print on demand and side hustles, so I thought maybe that was the direction. I started with designs because that's what I kept hearing was working. But the more I got into it, the more I realized I was building from what other people said was a good opportunity, not from clarity around what God was asking me to steward.
How to know what business to start: begin with what's in your hands
When I talk about clarity, I don't mean it as a cute business word. I mean the thing I wish I'd slowed down for sooner. So today I want to ask you one question: what are you actually building with God? The scripture I want to hold this around is Proverbs 16:3 — commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans. Before we keep adding to the business, before we force the plan to make sense, we have to ask whether we've actually brought what we're building back to Him. There's a difference between having a business idea and knowing what you're called to steward. There's a difference between doing a lot of business activity and building with wisdom.
Clarity often starts quietly
A lot of women are waiting for something bigger before they begin. They pause — not because they have nothing to offer, but because they think the beginning has to feel more obvious than it does. They expect clarity to arrive in one big unmistakable moment. But sometimes it starts much quieter — with the thing you keep downplaying because it feels normal to you. The skill you use without thinking. The way you can hear someone talk for a few minutes and understand what's really weighing on them. That doesn't mean every part of your life becomes a business. It means your life may already be giving you clues. And if you're always searching for a completely new idea, you can miss what God has already been forming right in front of you.
Build from simple stewardship
Your business doesn't have to begin with a dramatic revelation. It can begin with simple stewardship — looking at what's already there and saying, "Lord, this is what I have right now. Show me how to be faithful with it." That's a much cleaner place to build from, because now you're not forcing yourself into someone else's version of business. You're coming back to what God has actually placed in front of you.
Your next faithful step
This week, stay with this question: what has God already placed in your hands? Pay attention to what keeps showing up in your life — your conversations, your skills, and the burdens God keeps bringing back to your heart.
Next week, we talk about the second clarity question: who am I called to serve in this season?

A Christian business podcast for women building with God
Welcome to Set Apart Startup. I'm Sim Lobo, and I'm really glad you're here. I made this show for the Christian woman solopreneur who's trying to build, rebuild, or simplify her business with God — without rushing, overspending, or losing her peace in the process.
When everything in your business feels like it matters at once
And I know that sounds simple until you're actually in it. You're looking at the idea, the budget, the tools, the offers, the content, the website, the schedule, the family responsibilities — and on and on. And then the part of you that keeps wondering: am I even focusing on the right thing?
I get that. I've been in the place where you want to move forward, but everything feels like it matters at the same time. That's why Set Apart Startup exists.
Honest conversations about starting and rebuilding a small business
This is where we'll have honest conversations about the early and rebuilding stages of business — even the messy middle, the scattered ideas, and the money pressure. We'll talk about the structure you need without overcomplicating it. The fear of being seen, or the pressure to make every decision count.
But we're not going to treat business like a race. We're going to slow it down, bring it back to God, and look at what is actually yours to carry right now.
Choose one next faithful step
Each episode will help you think clearly, make wiser decisions, and choose one next step you can actually take. If this feels like the kind of conversation you need right now as you're building your business, follow the show — and I'll meet you in the first full episode.
