Forgetting Tasks as a Christian Woman in Business: The Downside of Being a Solopreneur | Set Apart Startup
Forgetting tasks as a Christian woman in business: the downside of being a solopreneur
If you're searching "why am I forgetting simple tasks" or "downsides of being a solopreneur" — this episode is for you. You're wearing every hat because that's the season you're in, not a flaw in you. But somewhere along the way, exhaustion starts costing you more than time — you forget tasks you already figured out, you redo work, you miss what you would have caught if you weren't running on empty.
What Samson never did
Samson was warned repeatedly. Delilah asked him the secret of his strength, he lied, she tested it, it failed — three separate times, the same pattern. He had other paths available the whole time. He could have walked away, found love elsewhere, spoken to a friend. He never looked for the better way. He told her the truth the fourth time anyway, and it cost him everything (Judges 16). His failure wasn't taking a risk. It was staying fixed on the one path that kept warning him.
Two real costs of doing it all alone
A free email marketing system with a real learning curve, discovered too late that it only worked for one sequence, not several — hours and energy spent that could have been saved. A lead magnet designed alone in free Canva under deadline pressure, formatting fighting back until a collab deadline was missed entirely. Neither mistake was a character flaw. Both were warning signs about capacity, not skill.
Forgetting tasks is a memory problem, not a discipline problem
When you're the whole system, exhaustion causes you to forget tasks you already solved once. That's not carelessness — your brain wasn't built to hold an entire business with no backup. The answer is documentation, not more effort: a file folder, a planner, the calendar already built into Microsoft or Gmail. No new software, no added cost. Write it down so future-exhausted-you already has the answer.
Your next faithful step
Pick one task you keep doing from memory — the one most likely to fall apart when you're exhausted. Write the steps down somewhere you'll actually find them again.
